Galleria Department Store Meets Video Art Master Nam June Paik

'TV Fish' by artist Nam June Paik exhibited at Galleria Gwanggyo Department Store.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Galleria Department Store announced on the 6th that it will exhibit Nam June Paik's work "TV Fish" at Galleria Gwanggyo in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the birth of the world-renowned video artist Nam June Paik. This collaboration with the Nam June Paik Art Center located in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, draws attention as it offers both art pieces and educational content that were previously only available at the region's top art institution.

Installed on the 12th floor of Galleria Gwanggyo, "TV Fish" is an installation artwork composed of 24 fish tanks and 24 televisions layered together. The unique feature is that the live fish swimming inside the tanks and the video images on the screens merge into a single image, providing visitors with a new media experience. Additionally, this collaboration allows visitors to see the piece, which was previously permanently exhibited only at the Nam June Paik Art Center, directly at Galleria Gwanggyo, adding a special significance.

Galleria Gwanggyo plans to newly organize the Nam June Paik Art Center's educational programs in connection with its cultural center and present them in the upcoming summer semester in June. Notable programs include the advanced learning course "NJP Academy," which explores Nam June Paik through various methodologies, and "NJP Creative," which allows participants to appreciate and understand Nam June Paik's major works. Especially, NJP Creative is expected to be popular among families as it is open to a wide age range from children to adults.

Furthermore, various linked events will be held, such as offering a "TV Fish" magnet on a first-come, first-served basis to those who present the Galleria application (app) coupon when visiting the Nam June Paik Art Center.

A Galleria official stated, "This exhibition planned to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Nam June Paik's birth will be a special opportunity to experience the artistic world of media art pioneer Nam June Paik in various spaces with new approaches."
