[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] In this year's June 1 Seoul mayoral election, Oh Se-hoon, the current Seoul mayor affiliated with the People Power Party, was found to be overwhelmingly ahead among the candidates from both ruling and opposition parties.
According to a public opinion poll conducted by Realmeter on behalf of Asia Economy on June 4-5, targeting 1,015 men and women aged 18 and over residing in Seoul (90% mobile, 10% landline, automated response), Mayor Oh was selected as the candidate "most likely to perform well as Seoul mayor." In this survey, which listed candidates from both ruling and opposition parties running for Seoul mayor and then asked for support preferences, Mayor Oh ranked first with 42.3%.
Following him were former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil (14.4%), former Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun (11.9%), Democratic Party lawmaker Park Ju-min (8.5%), former lawmaker Na Kyung-won (5.2%), former Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok (5.1%), former lawmaker Kim Jin-ae (4.8%), Democratic Party lawmaker Park Yong-jin (1.9%), and former lawmaker Oh Shin-hwan (1.0%).
Mayor Oh was found to have the highest support across all generations. However, in terms of party support, 82.1% of People Power Party supporters expressed their intention to support him, while only 5.2% of Democratic Party supporters showed support. Among Democratic Party supporters, former leader Song received 29.9% support, ranking first, followed by former minister Park (21.7%) and lawmaker Park (15.9%).
How the survey was conducted = This survey was commissioned by Asia Economy and conducted by Realmeter over two days, June 4 and 5. Calls were attempted to 80,938 eligible voters aged 18 and over residing in Seoul, with a final 1,015 respondents completing the survey, yielding a response rate of 1.3%. The survey used an automated response method with 90% mobile and 10% landline calls, employing a random digit dialing sampling frame. Statistical adjustments were made using raking weighting based on gender, age group, and region according to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's resident registration population statistics as of the end of March 2022. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
