Major Obstacle 'GB Release'... 1.09 Million Special Cities Gain Momentum for 'Goyang New City Hall Construction' Development Restriction Lifted on Goyang City New City Hall Site [Goyang City]

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The 'Greenbelt' area, considered the biggest obstacle in the construction project of the new Goyang City Hall, has been lifted, giving momentum to the construction of the new city hall.

On the 5th, the city announced, "The Gyeonggi-do Urban Planning Committee's review for lifting the Greenbelt designation on the planned site for the Goyang City Hall was finally approved on April 1."

As a result, the previously prohibited public office designation and land use changes can now be made to fit the scale of the new city hall construction, completing all urban planning procedures.

The new city hall will be built on a 73,946㎡ site at 206-1 Jugyo-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, with a project cost of approximately 295 billion KRW. Construction is scheduled to begin in May next year and be completed by October 2025.

Meanwhile, the current city hall, built 38 years ago when Goyang was still a county, received a D grade in a detailed safety inspection. Due to insufficient office space, many issues have been raised as city hall staff have had to occupy 10 external buildings nearby.

A city official stated, "We will promote the construction of a future-oriented, eco-friendly green building for the 1.09 million citizens of Goyang, as a citizen-accessible city hall and a symbolic landmark of the city."
