[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Residents of Haengam-dong and Bongseon 2-dong in Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will promote a safe communal childcare and gap care project starting in June.
Nam-gu announced that two local care communities, Nam-gu Residents' Council and Sipsiilban Nanum Village School, were selected in the '2022 Women and Family-Friendly Village Creation Project Contest' hosted by Gwangju City, and will carry out various community care-related projects until the end of this year.
The Nam-gu Residents' Council, active in the Hyochon 2 District, initiated the 'Let's Do It Together Donworry Communal Childcare' project to care for children of dual-income families within the community, noting that despite the presence of large apartment complexes, there are no institutions providing care services.
This project targets elementary school students from grades 1 to 6 in Haengam-dong who require care, with a budget of approximately 18.9 million KRW.
Detailed projects include the 'Let's Grow Together, Dreams and Wisdom' program, which provides learning and play spaces for students not selected for elementary school care classrooms, and the 'Let's Learn Together, Adults and Children' program, where village residents and senior elementary students collaborate and donate talents for learning.
Additionally, the 'Let's Do It Together, Our Whole Family' program will be introduced, where fathers and children explore the village and enjoy healing time together.
Members of the Sipsiilban Nanum Village School community in Bongseon 2-dong will also invest 10.5 million KRW by the end of the year to carry out the 'Everyone's Child, Bongdari Village Gap Care' project.
This is due to the increasing proportion of career-interrupted women who cannot engage in economic activities because they have no place to leave their children due to marriage and childcare, highlighting the importance of gap care.
Accordingly, the local care community plans to operate village learning center programs and resident care homeroom systems at Bongdari Sarangbang and nearby parks from Monday to Friday, 4 PM to 8 PM.
Furthermore, to activate the childcare community, two childcare clubs will be discovered and supported, and monthly one-day classes involving residents will be held, with activities shared through a care app.
A Nam-gu official stated, "We will accelerate the project to create a women- and child-safe family-friendly village and further activate community-centered care communities."
