Eunpyeong-gu 'Bulgwangcheon Media Center' Opens... Gangnam-gu 'Ilwon Lifelong Learning Center' Opens

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) opened the resident media culture center ‘Bulgwangcheon Media Center’ on the 2nd.

Bulgwangcheon Media Center is a public cultural facility that supports media-related video production equipment, facilities, and educational programs so that residents can easily access media and engage in various media cultural activities.

According to the district, it explained that it will play a leading role in the era of one-person broadcasting by creating a foundation for online media writers and producers based on various platforms.

The facility has a dedicated area of 345.13㎡ and consists of the 2nd floor and rooftop. It is equipped with professional facilities and the latest equipment to support digital media creative activities and serve as a cultural activity hub.

Main facilities include a main studio, one-person studio, podcast studio, and digital education/editing room.

The main studio consists of an internal shooting space and a video control room that operates media equipment. Through professional media equipment, media content program production and education can be conducted.

The one-person studio is optimized for one-person media. It allows one-stop video production, editing, and broadcasting for personal broadcasting.

The podcast studio is equipped with facilities suitable for radio broadcasting. Podcasts can be broadcast through microphones, PCs, and control equipment.

The digital education/editing room performs various roles such as comprehensive editing and broadcasting of professionally shot videos.

Various media equipment can be rented from beginner to professional levels. The rooftop lounge is decorated as an observatory and photo zone, serving as a resting place for residents. Outdoor broadcasting and other experiential programs will be operated in the future.

Additionally, the book zone where various media-related books can be read, the media video zone screening media content, VR experience, and community space multi-zone serve as communication spaces for residents interested in media.

The district plans to nurture village media activists through resident participation planning programs, media education, and pilot program operations, and support the establishment of a media cooperation network by laying the foundation for media club activities.

The Bulgwangcheon Media Center construction project was promoted as part of the creation of the Bulgwangcheon Broadcasting Culture Street with special grants and subsidies from Seoul City in 2020. After establishing the basic plan in April 2020, remodeling design was carried out following safety diagnosis and structural review of the existing building. Interior construction and operational preparations were completed in March this year, and it opened on the 2nd.

A district official said, “Bulgwangcheon Media Center is expected to develop into a representative media hub space leading the digital media era in Eunpyeong-gu. We ask for residents’ great interest and support.”

Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jung Soon-gyun) opened the ‘Ilwon Lifelong Learning Center’ on the 1st floor of Ilwon Sports Culture Center (22 Yeongdong-daero) on the 23rd of last month to foster a lifelong learning culture and promote exchanges among residents.

Following Gaepo Lifelong Learning Center (formerly Longrun Academy) operating within the Capital High School, Ilwon Lifelong Learning Center, the second to open, is equipped with 5 classrooms, 3 small meeting rooms, 2 lounges, and an instructor waiting room. The lounges can be used by both students and local residents, serving as a community space.

The center operates various programs such as smartphone filmmaking, European flower & design florist classes, everyday English conversation, and beginner YouTube creator school. Applications can be made on the Gangnam Lifelong Learning website, and detailed information is available by contacting the Gangnam-gu Education Support Division.

The district operates differentiated courses reflecting the characteristics of each center. Ilwon Center, with multiple classrooms, will diversify content such as certification acquisition, special lectures, and talent donation lectures, while Gaepo Center, with a cooking practice room, will focus on cooking courses.

Gangnam-gu Mayor Jung Soon-gyun said, “During the 7th elected term, Gangnam-gu ranked first nationwide among autonomous districts in ‘administrative services’ and ‘lifelong education’ in 2020, and introduced ‘Gangnam Open University’ last year. We will continue to uphold Gangnam’s reputation as the ‘No.1 education district in Korea.’”

Jung-gu (Mayor Seo Yang-ho) announced that it installed an unmanned civil service issuance machine inside Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station on Subway Line 2 on the 22nd of last month and operates it 24 hours a day.

The area around Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station is located between Myeongdong and Sogong-dong, the central business districts, and is adjacent to government offices and large hospitals, making it a region with a high frequency of civil document issuance not only for residents but also for office workers. The district installed the unmanned civil service issuance machine inside the highly accessible and heavily trafficked Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station on Subway Line 2 so that residents can easily issue civil documents during their spare time.

Residents can issue 113 types of civil documents from Government24, Electronic Family Relations System, Internet Registry Office, etc., with fingerprint verification only, without an ID card, at a fee discounted up to 50%. In particular, the most frequently requested civil documents, resident registration certificates and family relation certificates, are issued free of charge.

The unmanned civil service issuance machine is equipped with convenience features for vulnerable groups such as braille displays and screen magnification functions. The 365 unmanned civil service issuance zones installed in each community service center have emergency bells connected to security companies 24 hours a day, allowing safe use even at night. Additionally, administrative information guides are stationed to assist elderly residents unfamiliar with digital devices.

With the new installation of the unmanned civil service issuance machine inside Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station, a total of 26 unmanned civil service issuance machines, including those at Jung-gu Office, health centers, and community service centers, operate 24 hours a day within Jung-gu. Residents can now issue civil documents non-face-to-face within a 10-minute walking distance, avoiding congestion. A district official explained, “As demand for non-face-to-face administrative services increased due to COVID-19, the district has more than doubled the installation of unmanned civil service issuance machines over the past two years.”

Locations and operating hours of unmanned civil service issuance machines can be checked on the Jung-gu Office website or Government24.

Eunpyeong-gu 'Bulgwangcheon Media Center' Opens... Gangnam-gu 'Ilwon Lifelong Learning Center' Opens The house (Changsin 6-dagil 22) that won the Grand Prize at the 8th Well-Maintained House Awards in 2021

Jongno-gu is looking for houses that have carefully cultivated small spaces within their homes with flowers and trees.

For the ninth annual selection of ‘Well-Cultivated Houses,’ the district is accepting applications or recommendations from the 21st of last month until July 29.

The targets are single-family, multi-family, and multi-unit houses that provide visual interest with creative designs reflecting Jongno’s history and locality, houses that contribute to improving alleyway landscapes with flowerpots, flower beds, or landscaping plants, and houses that are natural-friendly and beautiful. Additionally, houses previously selected as well-cultivated and consistently well-maintained may apply again this year. However, apartment complexes with 30 or more households are excluded.

Applications can be made not only by building owners but also by neighbors and tourists. Applicants should prepare an application or recommendation form and photos of the house’s front, facade, and side views, and submit them by visiting the Residential Regeneration Division’s Housing Environment Improvement Team at the district office or by email within the period.

In September, the district plans to select five well-cultivated houses through document review, on-site inspection, and a judging committee to verify eligibility. Five winners, including the grand prize winner, will receive a well-cultivated house plaque and gardening supplies. The award ceremony and exhibition will be held in October to November this year.

For details and inquiries about the ‘9th Well-Cultivated House,’ contact the Residential Regeneration Division at the district office.

Since the first event in 2014, Jongno-gu has consistently selected and awarded well-cultivated houses in the area and worked to expand green spaces in the city. Last year, the house at 22 Changsin 6-da-gil won the grand prize, earning the honor of being the best-cultivated house in Jongno.

A district official said, “This project started to find and widely promote natural-friendly and beautiful houses located throughout the community,” adding, “We will continue to discover and award well-cultivated houses to help restore community cohesion and expand green spaces in the city.”
