Jeonju-si, Establishes Drone Prototype Production Center

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 4th that it has been finally selected as the lead institution (specialized lab) for the ‘2022 Makerspace Establishment and Operation Project’ promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and managed by the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development, together with CAMTIC Institute of Technology (Director No Sang-heup).

The Makerspace Establishment and Operation Project focuses on supporting various activities such as prototype production and idea productization to promote manufacturing and startups by freely creating, designing, and modifying innovative ideas using digital technology-based manufacturing equipment.

Accordingly, with the selection in this public contest, the city and CAMTIC will receive up to 900 million KRW in national funding over five years to establish the ‘Jeonju Drone Workshop WingWing-Station’ equipped with facilities and equipment for prototype production in Building 1 of the Jeonju Advanced Venture Complex in Palbok-dong (former headquarters building), and operate various programs including education and training.

In particular, the city plans to additionally utilize the equipment of the Drone Innovation Industry Support Center, recently opened within the Advanced Venture Complex, to help prospective entrepreneurs and others turn their ideas into products, and support successful startups by transferring entrepreneurial technologies through community spaces used by companies residing in the Drone Innovation Industry Support Center.

Based on CAMTIC’s capabilities developed over the past 20 years in supporting startup technology education and prototype production, it will provide field-oriented startup programs utilizing specialized education, equipment, and technology in the drone industry sector.

Through this project, Jeonju City aims to develop the Jeonju Advanced Venture Complex into the Drone Industry Innovation Valley, a drone industry hub in Korea where discovery, nurturing, startup, growth, and development of drone prospective entrepreneurs are concentrated.

Meanwhile, Jeonju City added that the Drone Industry Innovation Support Center has been established in the Innovation Startup Hub within the Jeonju Advanced Venture Complex.

The Drone Industry Innovation Support Center is equipped with 15 types of advanced drone equipment accessible to drone companies and prospective entrepreneurs, as well as office spaces for 13 drone-related industry-academia-research institutions, making it a base space for local drone companies and expected to lead the development of Korea’s drone industry.
