With Representative Kim Tae-heum, who was considered a strong candidate for the floor leader, being drafted as a preliminary candidate for Governor of Chungnam Province, Kwon's solo run is anticipated.
On the 4th, People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok and floor leader Kim Ki-hyun met with Representative Kim to encourage him to run for Governor of Chungnam. It was reported that at this meeting, Representative Kim effectively gave up his bid for floor leader and confirmed his candidacy for Chungnam Governor. Representative Kim's constituency is Boryeong·Seocheon in Chungnam.
After the meeting with Representative Kim, Leader Lee told reporters, "There is a shared perception that if we do not achieve a landslide victory in the local elections, the Yoon Seok-yeol administration will find it difficult to gain early momentum," adding, "Not only the party leadership but anyone in the party must devote their full efforts." However, when asked whether this contradicts the party's 5% penalty policy for incumbent candidates in this local election, Leader Lee responded, "Representative Kim is highly respected in his region, so I am confident he will not become a variable."
With Representative Kim running for Governor of Chungnam, the focus is shifting toward Representative Kwon's candidacy for floor leader. However, Kwon has not yet officially declared his candidacy and is reportedly only expressing that he is 'considering' it. Among the members, there are ongoing calls for 3-term representatives such as Kim Do-eup and Yoon Jae-ok to run as well.
