[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] On June 1st, the day of the nationwide simultaneous local elections, Park Gisu, a preliminary candidate who announced his candidacy for the mayor of Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City from the Democratic Party of Korea, held an opening ceremony for his election office on the 3rd and officially launched his election campaign.
At the opening ceremony, about 600 supporters including Kang Kijeong, preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, Ahn Hojae, representative of the bereaved family of Police Commissioner Ahn Byungha, campaign committee chairperson Ahn Hyesook, preliminary candidates for city and district council members, as well as various figures from all walks of life and local residents attended to brighten the event.
Candidate Park said, “I sincerely thank everyone for honoring us with their presence despite their busy schedules,” and added, “I understand this as a request to lead Nam-gu, and I will work even harder fueled by your passionate support.”
He continued, “The current political circle bears great responsibility for failing to elect candidate Lee Jae-myung as president,” and emphasized, “It is now necessary to restore the values of the Democratic Party and pursue politics and administration for the weak and ordinary people. I will restore the Democratic Party’s values in Nam-gu through Lee Jae-myung’s policies and create a fair and just Nam-gu.”
He also stated, “I will prove that Lee Jae-myung’s policies are the right answer to save Nam-gu in crisis,” and added, “Park Gisu, who knows Lee Jae-myung’s policies well, will definitely put them into practice.”
Additionally, he announced 11 pledges including ‘Annual Basic Income of 200,000 KRW for Nam-gu Residents’ and ‘Improvement of the Traffic System Using ITS (Intelligent Transportation System).’
Candidate Park previously served as the co-head of the Gwangju Joint Headquarters of the Political Advisory Group directly under Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung, and as president of TBN Gwangju Traffic Broadcasting. Currently, he is the representative of the Memorial Project Association for Police Commissioner Ahn Byungha, a police hero who refused the military regime’s order to shoot during the May 18 Gwangju Uprising, protecting the lives and safety of Gwangju citizens, and who passed away due to aftereffects of torture.
