[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Jo Hyunsoo (30), who was publicly wanted along with Lee Eunhae (31) on suspicion of murder in a valley in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, has been confirmed to have filed defamation and insult charges against about 100 netizens.

According to the Songpa Police Station in Seoul on the 3rd, Jo filed defamation charges last April against netizens who revealed their personal information or left comments about the case. The timing of Jo's lawsuit came after the SBS investigative program "Unanswered Questions" aired the case in October 2020.

The Songpa Police Station concluded the investigation of three people, clearing two of them and sending one to the prosecution in May of the same year. It was confirmed that 46 of these individuals were transferred to their respective police stations.

The complainant reportedly expressed that they suffered mental shock due to the netizens' comments. Also, Jo is said to have set different settlement amounts depending on the severity of the posts.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Division 2 of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office issued a wanted notice for Lee and Jo, who fled while under investigation without detention on charges of murder, attempted murder, and violation of the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud on the 30th of last month. They appeared at the prosecution for the first investigation on December 13 last year and disappeared before the second investigation the following day. Their whereabouts have been unknown for three months.

The two are accused of forcing A, the husband of Lee who could not swim, to dive into the water at Yongsogyeok Valley in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, on June 30, 2019, resulting in his drowning and death.
