[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] As Ukraine recaptures the capital Kyiv (Kiyev) region, foreign media reports have revealed evidence suggesting that Russian forces committed war crimes.

On the 2nd (local time), according to major foreign media, the UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that Russian troops withdrew from areas near Kyiv. The Ukrainian presidential office also announced that more than 30 settlements near Kyiv were recaptured from Russian forces.

Evidence of Russian forces killing civilians has been found in the recaptured areas. According to the UK Guardian, on the same day, the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice began an investigation into allegations that Russian troops used children as human shields in several combat zones, including the outskirts of Kyiv.

It is suspected that during their retreat, Russian forces took children hostage and placed them in front of vehicles such as tanks to avoid attacks from Ukrainian forces.

Oleksandr Motuzianyk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, stated that evidence of war crimes such as civilian killings is increasing following the Russian withdrawal, adding, "We will ensure that all military and war crimes committed by occupying forces are held accountable in criminal courts."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the Russian forces for planting numerous mines during their retreat and attaching detonating devices to houses and corpses. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence also posted photos and videos on social media (SNS) showing streets with civilian corpses.
