Ruling and Opposition Parties Agree to Submit and Process the 'Late Lee Yeram Sergeant Special Investigation Act' at the Judiciary Committee on the 4th

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party have decided to table and agree on the 'Special Investigation Law for the Late Sergeant Lee Yeram' at the plenary meeting of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee scheduled for the afternoon of the 4th.

On the 3rd, the floor leaders of both parties met at the National Assembly in the afternoon to discuss the introduction of a multi-member district system for basic councilors, and agreed to table and process a special investigation bill related to the death caused by sexual violence within the Air Force flying unit.

On the same day, Song Eon-seok, the senior deputy floor leader of the People Power Party, told reporters after the meeting, "We will hold the Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 4th to table and discuss the special investigation bill regarding the death caused by sexual violence within the Air Force combat flying unit, and agree to process it." Along with this, the policy chiefs of both parties also agreed to start consultations to implement common presidential election pledges to resolve livelihood issues.

When asked whether the consultation on implementing common presidential election pledges includes the 'Supplementary Budget (Chugyeong)', he said, "The transition team is continuously discussing with the government side," adding, "If the supplementary budget bill is submitted, the National Assembly will process it as quickly as possible, but it is not appropriate for the National Assembly or the parties to intervene in the content, scale, or funding."

On the same day, no agreement was reached on the issue of electoral district delimitation, including the introduction of a multi-member district system for basic councilors.

Deputy Floor Leader Song said, "Although there was sufficient exchange of positions between the two parties, realistically, there was an opinion that there is somewhat insufficient time to process it at the plenary session on April 5," and added, "Further discussions will be held and it is scheduled to be processed next time."

Jin Seong-jun, the senior deputy floor leader of the Democratic Party, said, "There is still a large gap in positions, so no agreement has been reached," and added, "It will be difficult to process the revision bill of the Public Official Election Act at the plenary session on April 5."

They also discussed the legislative schedule for April, but specific dates will be decided after the next leadership of the People Power Party is determined.

Deputy Floor Leader Song said, "Since the party's internal floor leader election is scheduled, it is inappropriate to decide immediately," and added, "I think the plenary session should be held next week."

Deputy Floor Leader Jin also said, "We agreed to convey the consensus to the next leadership of the People Power Party," and added, "We reached a consensus that bill processing will be necessary in mid to late April and during the last session of the extraordinary National Assembly."
