[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] At around 5:45 a.m. on the 3rd, a 970-ton barge (sub-vessel) sank near the waters off Bito Island, Seopo-myeon, Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam.
One crew member was on board but was evacuated by a tugboat, resulting in no casualties. Sacheon Coast Guard plans to transfer 1,600 liters of diesel loaded on the barge to a containment vessel and then tow the barge to a safe area.
A Sacheon Coast Guard official said, "The exact cause of the accident is under investigation."
