Why Did Gangnam-gu Hold a Meeting with the Social Welfare Institutions Council?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jung Soon-gyun) held a meeting with the Gangnam-gu Social Welfare Institutions Council (Chairman Shim Gye-won) to discuss the development of local welfare and the improvement of residents' well-being.

The Gangnam-gu Social Welfare Institutions Council is an organization established in 2006 by social welfare facilities and institutions in Gangnam-gu to promote local welfare development. It consists of 34 institutions providing social welfare services tailored to different life stages and welfare targets, from children to the elderly.

At the meeting held on the 24th of last month, the Gangnam-gu Social Welfare Institutions Council shared positive feedback from the field regarding the welfare policies promoted by the district, including ▲ the establishment of the ICT Experience and Education Center ‘Gangnam Smart Lounge’ to bridge the digital divide among seniors and the installation of AI speakers in homes ▲ the installation of the nation’s first smart experience home for the disabled and smart residential environment improvements ▲ and projects to expand resident communities through remodeling of the neighborhood community centers.

They also requested that the district continue to listen to residents' responses and social workers' difficulties in the welfare field to create an environment that maximizes public-private cooperation.

Jung Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “During the 7th local government term, Gangnam-gu has proactively led resident-centered welfare projects that serve as models nationwide. Going forward, we will fulfill our role as a leading city in Korea by realizing inclusive welfare for ‘a Gangnam where everyone enjoys happiness,’ setting an example for other local governments.”
