[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] UNESCO has revealed that at least 53 sites, including historic sites, religious facilities, and museums in Ukraine, have been damaged due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

According to The Guardian on the 1st (local time), UNESCO stated that Ukrainian authorities have compiled this data and experts are currently verifying it. UNESCO is confirming the information provided by Ukraine through satellite images and eyewitness testimonies.

As a result, it has been confirmed that 29 religious facilities, 16 historic buildings, 4 museums, and 4 monuments have been destroyed in Ukraine so far. Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine has suffered the greatest damage in terms of historic sites, with damage also confirmed in the capital Kyiv and northern Chernihiv. None of the damaged sites in Ukraine due to the war with Russia are registered as World Cultural Heritage sites.

Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director-General, previously sent a letter to Russia urging the protection of cultural heritage during conflicts in accordance with international agreements. She warned Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that "violating these norms will result in international responsibility."
