[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will conduct a comprehensive crackdown on drunk driving starting from 8 p.m. on April 1.
The police agency noted that the number of spring visitors is increasing in major tourist destinations such as Geoje, Tongyeong, and Namhae, and it is expected that cherry blossoms throughout the province, including Jinhae-gu in Changwon City and Hadong County, will be in full bloom this weekend.
With the arrival of the peak outing season, they announced plans to prevent drunk driving incidents that may occur due to the increase in visitors enjoying spring flowers.
All police stations in the province will mobilize maximum traffic and local police personnel to conduct mobile spot checks near blooming areas, restaurant districts, and downtown entertainment districts, while the highway patrol will be responsible for drunk driving enforcement at tollgate entrances and exits.
The provincial police’s undercover patrol enforcement team will also cooperate with frontline police station enforcement teams to conduct joint crackdowns.
A police agency official stated, “Drunk driving has a very high possibility of leading to major accidents, and the victims could be not only others but also your own family. Please remember this well,” adding, “Whether it is just one drink or a sip, if you have consumed alcohol, you must never drive. If you suspect a vehicle is driving under the influence, please report it immediately to 112.”
