[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Park Hyeja, a preliminary candidate for Superintendent of Education of Gwangju Metropolitan City, voiced concerns about President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's education policy.
On the 31st, Park stated in a press release, "President-elect Yoon's education policy shows signs of causing regression in South Korea's education," and pointed out, "Regressive education policies such as expanding the regular admission system and reviving autonomous private high schools are causing great confusion among parents and students."
She continued, "Currently, the Yoon Seok-yeol transition team did not have any specific discussions on education during the transition team's work reports on the 25th and today," and claimed, "No education experts were included in the transition team process, and education policies are being deprioritized, with only unilateral talk of merging and abolishing the Ministry of Education."
She also explained, "At a time when a major transformation in education is imminent, including the launch of the National Education Committee, phased implementation of the 2022 revised curriculum, the 2023 high school credit system, and the 2028 future-oriented College Scholastic Ability Test, the policy to expand regular admissions in university entrance exams is a regression that causes educational inequality."
She added, "Now is the time to first establish directions such as the composition of the National Education Committee, the high school credit system, and university entrance reform," and said, "President-elect Yoon should promptly clarify the current education reform direction and establish a proper vision."
