[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Andong City, Gyeongbuk Province, will completely ban the use of disposable products in food service establishments such as cafes, restaurants, and bakeries starting April 1.
The use of disposable products, which was temporarily allowed due to the spread of COVID-19, will be prohibited again following the revision of the Ministry of Environment's notice.
The targeted businesses include group catering facilities and food service establishments, where the use of disposable cups, plates, containers, spoons, bags, and vinyl tablecloths inside the premises will be banned.
Businesses that violate this regulation may be fined up to 3 million KRW.
The city plans to send guidance notices to related businesses and conduct promotional activities through its website and SNS posts.
An Andong city official stated, “Disposable products are convenient for immediate use, but they cause large amounts of waste and environmental pollution,” and added, “Reducing disposable products should start with myself, and we hope for active participation from citizens.”
