[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the morning of the 31st, the government held a Standing Committee meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) chaired by Suh Hoon, Director of the National Security Office, and conducted a thorough assessment of North Korea's nuclear and missile activities.
The attendees reiterated the importance of maintaining an airtight security posture during the government transition period and agreed to uphold a firm readiness posture based on the enhanced response capabilities of our military and the strong ROK-US alliance.
In this regard, they closely evaluated North Korea's military trends, especially recent nuclear and missile-related activities, and decided to continue taking necessary measures including diplomatic responses.
The attendees received a report from the National Security Office on the "Emerging and Core Technologies and National Security Strategic Tasks," which presented four strategic tasks necessary to secure a competitive edge in emerging and core technologies in an era of intensified technological competition and bloc formation.
The report defined emerging and core technologies as critical national interests essential for our future survival and prosperity, directly linked to security, and proposed four strategic tasks to secure them: ▲ systematic early identification of technological trends ▲ establishment of a dedicated specialized institution for research planning and support ▲ strengthening protection systems for technologies and related personnel ▲ and enhancing international cooperation.
They also reviewed issues related to the Ukraine war and agreed to continuously pursue measures to ensure the safety of our citizens and minimize corporate damages, including persistent urging for the return of foreign military participants staying in Ukraine.
