Seungok Lee, Gangjin County Governor, Declares Bid for Re-election


[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Lee Seung-ok, the governor of Gangjin County, held a press conference in front of the Gangjin County Office in Jeollanam-do on the 30th and officially declared his candidacy for the county governor in the upcoming local elections in June.


Governor Lee stated that he decided to run for re-election to achieve uninterrupted development of Gangjin and to build a new era of a great Gangjin.


He reflected, “From the moment I received the certificate of election, I have taken on the belief of pioneering a new path amid an unprecedented pandemic, guided by the heavy responsibility and the expectations of the residents throughout the 7th term of the elected government.”


He emphasized, “In the COVID-19 situation, a leader with proven crisis management skills and abundant experience is necessary.”


On this day, Governor Lee drew attention by presenting seven major pledges for ‘Building a New Era of a Great Gangjin,’ stating that regional development in the 8th term of the elected government depends on who becomes the county governor.


The major pledges include ▲ Establishment of a 350,000㎡ 2nd General Industrial Complex ▲ Three-dimensional infrastructure construction to respond to population decline ▲ Strengthening urban brand and regional balanced development through attracting large public institutions and expanding key infrastructure ▲ Achieving 200 billion KRW in direct sales of agricultural specialty products and fostering customized agro-food industries reflecting the latest trends ▲ Creating a stay-type wellness tourism hub city and building a tourism ecosystem combined with culture and arts ▲ Realizing a happy welfare community together ▲ Fostering future environmental new industries to respond to climate change.


Governor Lee, who opened the era of a 500 billion KRW budget for the first time in the history of county administration, completed 100% of the Gangjin Industrial Complex sales, which had been a financial burden, within one year of his 7th term inauguration. He pioneered the nation’s first direct flower market in a non-face-to-face pandemic situation, increased the sales scale of the agricultural specialty direct sales market to 35.9 billion KRW last year, and secured 180,000 regular customers, demonstrating outstanding crisis response capabilities recognized as a strength amid the COVID-19 crisis.


Meanwhile, Governor Lee Seung-ok started his public service career in Gangjin through the 7th-grade public official recruitment, graduated with a master's degree from the Graduate School of Public Administration at Chonnam National University and completed doctoral coursework at Honam University Graduate School of Public Administration. He is known as an administrative expert who has served as a professional committee member of the Gangjin County Council, director of the Administrative Support Bureau and Tourism and Culture Bureau of Jeollanam-do, and deputy mayor of Yeosu.
