[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] On the 30th, Jeonnam Haenam-gun announced that it is accelerating the expansion of infrastructure for the supply of clean water, which greatly affects the quality of life of the residents.

The county is investing a total project cost of 120 billion KRW, including 67.4 billion KRW in national funds, in nine projects such as local water supply modernization and rural living water development, to expedite the early supply of clean and clear tap water.

The local water supply modernization project, which modernizes the Haenam Water Purification Plant, the source of local water supply for residents, has completed detailed design and started construction in February.

This project, with a total budget of 20 billion KRW including national funds, will completely renovate the Haenam Water Purification Plant located in Songjeong-ri, Samsan-myeon, into a state-of-the-art purification plant incorporating ICT technology.

Once the Haenam Water Purification Plant modernization project is completed in 2024, it will be able to supply the highest quality tap water at a scale of 4,000㎥ per day to 5,915 households in areas including part of Haenam-eup, Samsan-myeon, Hwasan-myeon, and Hyonsan-myeon.

Along with this, the Haenam-gun aged water pipe network maintenance project, worth a total of 33.1 billion KRW, is also accelerating. This project replaces 105 km of old water pipes and establishes a block system in areas including Haenam-eup, Songji-myeon, Hwangsan-myeon, and Munnae-myeon.

The aged water pipe network maintenance project, which will be carried out over five years until 2024, began block system construction and maintenance system construction last year, and from this year, it is actively replacing old pipes in the project areas and conducting network maintenance.

The simultaneous promotion of the aged water purification plant modernization project and the aged water pipe network maintenance project is expected to be a revolutionary turning point for high-quality water supply by 2024.

Additionally, a local water supply emergency network construction project is underway in the Songji area to supply wide-area water from Jangheung Dam in case of drought. With a total project cost of 2 billion KRW secured, an emergency pipeline of L=8.3 km will be laid to minimize areas where tap water supply is interrupted.

Also, the emergency supply network construction project between Okcheon and Gyegok is scheduled to start construction in June this year, and clean and clear tap water is expected to be supplied to the Okcheon and Gyegok areas as well.

Furthermore, a smart network management infrastructure construction project has secured a total project cost of 3.5 billion KRW, including 2.5 billion KRW in national funds. By establishing a water management system that incorporates ICT (Information and Communication Technology) throughout the entire tap water supply process, it plans to prevent water supply accidents in advance and enable rapid response in case of accidents.

County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan said, “One of the most revolutionary changes since the 7th local government administration has been the improvement of residents’ water welfare through the expansion of water supply facilities. We will do our best to complete the water supply expansion projects such as the Haenam Water Purification Plant modernization project without delay, so that we can stably supply the clearest water in the country to our residents.”
