[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] On the 1st of next month, the European Union (EU) and China will hold a summit meeting.

Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced on the 30th that Premier Li Keqiang will hold the 23rd China-EU Summit via video conference with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.

At the EU-China summit, Premier Li, the second-highest-ranking official in China, has attended as the Chinese representative. Wang also stated that President Xi Jinping is expected to communicate via video with President Michel and others during the summit.

The response to the Ukraine war is expected to be one of the main agenda items at the meeting. The EU, which is leading sanctions against Russia together with the United States, is anticipated to request China to join the sanctions against Russia.

In response, China is expected to reiterate its existing position opposing sanctions and affirm that normal trade between China and Russia will continue.
