Timonet 'Theater of Light' Opens on May 27... First Exhibition 'Theater of Light: Klimt'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The immersive exhibition "Theater of Light," which attracted attention in Jeju, has confirmed its opening on May 27 at the "Walkerhill Theater" in Seoul and will present "Theater of Light: Klimt" as its first exhibition.

On the 30th, Timonet, the organizer of the exhibition, announced that the immersive exhibition project "Light Series" will be held at the Walkerhill Hotel & Resort's "Walkerhill Theater" located in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.

"Theater of Light" has transformed the "Walkerhill Theater," which has played a symbolic role in the performing arts scene for over 50 years since its opening in 1963, into a space of "light." It preserves the spatial characteristics of the existing theater, including lighting and stage equipment, as well as the overwhelming scale of 3,300㎡ (1,000 pyeong) total area and a maximum height of 21 meters, offering visitors a more special and sensory experience.

In addition, it showcases the essence of immersive exhibitions by integrating the latest technologies such as high-definition projectors and servers capable of rendering over 3,000 high-resolution licensed images, speakers, automated video and audio systems, and 3D sound. Visitors can enjoy a unique artistic experience as if they become the protagonists of the artworks, surrounded by works and music projected from beam projectors and speakers all around the massive exhibition hall.

The opening exhibition of "Theater of Light," titled "Theater of Light: Klimt," is a newly reinterpreted exhibition of the works of Gustav Klimt, known as the painter of golden hues in the 20th century, through light and music. The masterpieces of the Austrian painting master Gustav Klimt are projected onto walls, pillars, and floors by high-definition projectors. This opening exhibition highlights Klimt’s representative works such as "The Kiss" and "Judith," as well as his unique artistic world throughout his life, maximizing the golden spectacle of the original works through dynamic projection mapping technology to provide an unforgettable experience for the audience.

Along with the main exhibition of Klimt, "Theater of Light" offers a diverse and rich visual experience including modern and contemporary works. It features a 10-minute screening of works by Yves Klein, a leading figure of French Nouveau R?alisme and known as the "Blue Artist," and visitors can also explore exhibitions composed of contemporary artworks in the contemporary exhibition hall. Additionally, visitors can create beautiful memories at the "Green Room," a photo spot designed with the makeup room concept that reflects the characteristics of the existing theater. Various attractions such as the "Mirror Room," where visitors can feel a different charm through artworks reflected in mirrors, and the "Small Aquarium," where the water in the tank becomes another canvas, are also provided.

Jinwoo Park, CEO of Timonet, said, "The opening of 'Theater of Light' on May 27 holds great significance as it culturally revitalizes the space by combining the artistic heritage of 'Walkerhill Theater' with the identity of Korea’s first exhibition." He added, "We will become a representative landmark of Seoul that offers visitors a unique experience through light and color that awaken the five senses."
