The Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office's Women and Violent Crimes Division announced on the 30th that they have arrested and indicted 21-year-old biological mother A and 28-year-old stepfather B for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes (child abuse resulting in death) for neglecting and abandoning their young daughter by not providing food.
According to the prosecution, from October last year to early March this year, A and B failed to provide timely meals to their 2-year-old daughter and 17-month-old son, leaving them neglected in a one-room apartment in Nam-gu, Ulsan.
The daughter, who did not receive food, died from malnutrition, and the boy was found on the 3rd in very poor health.
The prosecution stated, "They recognized that not providing food could cause their children to die from malnutrition but neglected them, which is judged to have implied intent to kill."
Regarding the boy, the prosecution is reportedly working with Nam-gu, Ulsan, the Child Protection Agency, the Crime Victim Support Center, and advisory committee members to find economic support and continuous care and protection measures.
