President Moon Attends Jogye Order's Supreme Patriarch Enthronement Ceremony... First Incumbent to Do So [Image source=Yonhap News]

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in, along with First Lady Kim Jung-sook, attended the ceremony honoring the 15th Supreme Patriarch of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, 'Jungbong Seongpa Daejongsa,' held at Jogyesa Temple on the afternoon of the 30th.


The Blue House stated, "This marks the first time a sitting president has attended the Supreme Patriarch's inauguration ceremony in person to directly congratulate the highest elder of the Buddhist community, His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch."


During the Lunar New Year holiday, only the First Lady visited Seongpa Daejongsa at Yangsan Tongdosa Temple to offer New Year's greetings and congratulate the Supreme Patriarch's inauguration.


In his congratulatory address, President Moon celebrated the inauguration of His Holiness Supreme Patriarch Jungbong Seongpa, who practiced the unity of farming and labor and left great achievements in culture and the arts. Furthermore, he expressed gratitude for the Buddhist community's active efforts to overcome COVID-19 and hoped that, with the inauguration of His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch, our society would move toward an era of harmony and integration.
