[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City Council members Kim Yongjip, Kim Gwangran, Jang Yeonju, Jang Jaeseong, Choi Mijeong, and Choi Younghwan have been selected as recipients of the '12th Excellent Legislative Award.'
The Excellent Legislative Award is presented by the Council of Chairpersons of City and Provincial Councils to outstanding council members who have made efforts for the development of local communities and local autonomy.
Chairman Kim Yongjip has led the realization of an advanced council by innovating the council and strengthening communication with citizens. In particular, during the inclusion process of the 'Gwangju-Daegu Dalbit Inland Railroad Construction Project' in the national railway network plan, he helped lay the foundation for Yeonghonam harmony and made significant contributions to regional balanced development by uniting the intentions of Yeonghonam city and provincial councils and issuing a joint petition.
Council member Kim Gwangran contributed to activating citizens' political participation by organizing and operating policy forums on various topics and task forces to resolve various pending issues. As chair of the Green New Deal Special Committee, she discovered various climate crisis response projects and greatly contributed to building a region-centered, citizen-led carbon-neutral city.
Council member Jang Yeonju, as a member of the Environment and Welfare Committee, played an important role in creating alternatives for a labor-respecting, win-win economy, ecological city, and a Gwangju where children are happy. She was recognized for significantly improving carbon-neutral city realization and citizens' energy welfare through revising the Basic Energy Ordinance and enacting the Citizen Participation Energy Transition Support Ordinance.
Council member Jang Jaeseong, as a member of the Industry and Construction Committee, communicated closely with citizens on-site and carried out legislative activities that practically helped citizens' lives. He made utmost efforts to improve the quality of life of Gwangju citizens by, among other things, being the first in the nation to propose an ordinance supporting delivery workers.
Council member Choi Mijeong, as a member of the Environment and Welfare Committee, worked actively to prepare various policy alternatives to enhance citizen welfare. She played a major role in improving welfare for the disabled by serving as a member of the Disability Subcommittee of the Welfare Cooperation Committee and seeking solutions to blind spots in disability activity support services.
Council member Choi Younghwan, as chair of the Youth Development Special Committee, was recognized for his contributions to realizing a Gwangju where youth can settle and achieve their dreams by organizing and discovering various youth support policies, enacting the Gwangju Metropolitan City Youth Enterprise Promotion and Support Ordinance, and urging the lowering of eligibility age to expand youth political participation.
