[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Expectations for the next government appear to be low. It has been confirmed that opinions sharply diverge on current issues such as the transition committee, the Ministry of Justice Minister's investigative control over the prosecution, and the current government's exercise of personnel authority.

According to a public opinion survey (ARS method) conducted by Media Tomato over two days from the 26th to 27th, targeting 1,008 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, 46.4% responded that they have 'high expectations (very high expectations 28.7% + high expectations 17.8%)' for the Yoon Seok-yeol government. The proportion of respondents who have 'low expectations (very low expectations 35.5%, low expectations 14.5%)' was 50.0%.


In a survey asking about party support, 43.8% responded that they support the Democratic Party of Korea, surpassing the People Power Party at 41.9%. Compared to last week's survey, the Democratic Party's support rate rose by 3 percentage points, while the People Power Party's support rate fell by 2.8 percentage points, reversing the ranking of support rates.


Regarding the conflict between outgoing and incoming presidents, which was described as a conflict between President Moon Jae-in and President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, the responsibility was largely attributed to President-elect Yoon. The opinion that 'President-elect Yoon bears more responsibility' was 50.7%, while 'President Moon bears more responsibility' was 42.9%.


Regarding personnel authority during the regime change period, 53.0% of respondents said 'President Moon should exercise it until the end of his term,' while 40.4% said 'it should be exercised according to President-elect Yoon's request.' Regarding the transition committee, 46.2% responded that it is 'not doing well,' while 29.6% said it is 'doing well,' and 17.7% said it is at an average level.


Regarding President-elect Yoon's key pledge to abolish the Ministry of Justice Minister's investigative control, 38.0% said 'it should be abolished,' while 41.1% said 'it should not be abolished.'
