KBO Requests Major League Baseball Players' Criticism Be Reflected to More Than Double Away Team Usage Space
Expanding Locker Rooms and Showers, Establishing Physical Therapy and Coach Rooms to Create an Environment for Game Concentration
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul’s Jamsil Baseball Stadium has completed a major facility renovation ahead of the professional baseball season opener at Jamsil, the city announced on the 29th.
Seoul City has fully upgraded the outdated facilities for visiting teams, a long-standing request from the baseball community, creating an environment where players can focus on the game. Additionally, the seating areas, safety fences, and electronic scoreboard systems were repaired to provide citizens with a more comfortable and safe viewing experience. A total of 2.7 billion KRW was invested.
Seoul City has more than doubled the space available for visiting team players, who had to endure inconvenience until now, expanding from 100㎡ to 232㎡ and completely improving the convenience facilities. The locker room space was expanded from 50㎡ to 72㎡, and 33 lockers were installed. The shower room was expanded more than fourfold from 8㎡ to 36㎡, and the number of showers increased from 3 to 11. The dining area was also expanded from 32㎡ to 50㎡ to accommodate 18 people simultaneously. A new physical therapy room (16㎡) and a coach’s room (20㎡) with 10 lockers and a locker room were newly created for players to receive treatment.
For citizens’ comfortable and safe viewing, the seating areas were repaired and safety fences replaced. Non-slip flooring with excellent durability and functionality was applied to the seating stairs and aisle floors to prevent accidents. Some of the faded seats (3,560 seats) due to aging had their backs and seat panels replaced, and the floors of the broadcasting room (1st floor) and corridors on the 2nd and 3rd floors were also repaired to ensure spectators can watch the games safely and comfortably.
The dugouts and safety fences in the 1st and 3rd base infield and outfield were completely replaced to prevent injuries that may occur during games. The electronic scoreboard system was also improved to display ultra-high-definition images. Video broadcasting equipment and operational devices were fully replaced so that spectators can enjoy clearer images on the scoreboard.
Additional announcement broadcasting equipment was installed around the central gate and player entrances of Jamsil Baseball Stadium. This allows for safety accident prevention through announcements guiding crowd dispersal during COVID-19 prevention and spectator congestion. Choi Kyung-joo, Director of the Seoul Tourism and Sports Bureau, explained, “The Seoul Sports Facilities Management Office improved convenience facilities so that players can focus on the game, and upgraded the aging spectator facilities so that citizens visiting the stadium can watch professional baseball in a comfortable environment.”
