[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwanju] Amid the ongoing spread of the Omicron variant, a surge of new COVID-19 cases continued on the 28th.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, the number of new COVID-19 cases nationwide from midnight to 9 p.m. on that day was recorded at 333,951. This is 150,056 more than the 183,895 cases reported during the same time frame the previous day.
Compared to 329,105 cases during the same time frame a week ago on the 21st, this is 4,846 more, and 9,034 more than 324,917 cases two weeks ago on the 14th. Although there have been analyses suggesting a slight decline in the Omicron wave recently, the current data indicates that the peak is still being maintained.
New cases were reported as 171,683 (51.4%) in the metropolitan area and 162,268 (48.6%) in non-metropolitan areas. By region, the numbers are as follows: Gyeonggi 87,714, Seoul 66,084, Incheon 17,885, Daegu 17,536, Gyeongnam 17,429, Jeonbuk 14,949, Gyeongbuk 14,909, Chungnam 14,022, Busan 13,932, Jeonnam 13,632, Chungbuk 13,069, Daejeon 11,124, Gangwon 10,514, Gwangju 7,890, Ulsan 7,573, Jeju 3,213, Sejong 2,476, etc.
