[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] Kim Jae-won, Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party, officially announced his candidacy for Daegu mayor on the 28th and stated that he will also resign from his position as Supreme Council Member.

On the same day, Kim announced his candidacy for Daegu mayor through Facebook, saying, "I intend to run for Daegu mayor with a heart dedicated to and serving only the happiness of Daegu citizens and the development of Daegu." He added, "I will also resign from my position as Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party. I will not be a burden to the party."

He continued, "Although the citizens of Daegu were the main contributors to President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's victory, Daegu has only been yielding to other cities and provinces," and emphasized, "Now, I will definitely take care of it. The right person to prioritize Daegu hand in hand with President Yoon Seok-yeol is me, Kim Jae-won."

Emphasizing his connection with Daegu, he also promised economic development for the city. He said, "During the four years I worked as an administrative officer at the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office, my first workplace, I took care of development strategies for Daegu and Gyeongbuk. As a three-term member of the National Assembly and chairman of the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee, I carefully managed the budget for Daegu and Gyeongbuk." He added, "As mayor of Daegu, I will devote all my efforts to Daegu’s administration and do everything possible to attract companies that will be Daegu’s future growth engines and global leaders." Furthermore, he said, "I will create a free economic city where companies flock," and added, "I will establish an integrated economic zone with one-hour living radius cities to help Daegu leap forward as a world-class metropolitan city."

Kim emphasized, "During the party primary, I will speak only about Daegu’s development," and stated, "I will show who knows Daegu better and who can do everything that Daegu citizens want."
