Yoon's Government Performance Outlook Declines for 2nd Week

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Jung-wan] A public opinion poll released on the 28th showed that President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for state affairs is higher within the margin of error than the outlook for President-elect Yoon Seok-youl's state affairs performance.


According to a weekly trend survey conducted by polling specialist Realmeter on behalf of Media Herald from March 21 to 25, targeting 2,512 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, the outlook for President-elect Yoon's state affairs performance was positive at 46.0% (28.8% very well, 17.2% somewhat well) and negative at 49.5% (37.5% not at all well, 12.1% not very well).


Compared to the previous week, the positive outlook fell by 3.2 percentage points (p) from 49.2%, while the negative outlook rose by 3.9%p. The positive outlook has been declining since the second week of March when it was 52.7%.


By region, negative outlooks led in all areas except Gangwon, Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam, and Daegu·Gyeongbuk. By age group, negative outlooks were higher in all generations except those in their 60s and 70s and above. Among moderates, the positive outlook was 44.1%, and the negative outlook was 51.7%. However, while men showed a majority positive outlook, women showed a majority negative outlook, resulting in opposite outlooks by gender.


President Moon Jae-in's state affairs performance evaluation recorded a positive rating of 46.7% and a negative rating of 50.7%. The gap between positive and negative ratings narrowed to 4.0%p, falling within the margin of error for the first time in one year and six months since the third week of September 2020. Compared to the previous week's survey, President Moon's positive evaluation rose by 4.0%p from 42.7%.


By age group, approval ratings increased across all ages from the 20s to 70s and above. By ideological tendency, progressives rose by 4.5%p, moderates by 3.2%p, and conservatives by 1.8%p, all showing increases.


Party support was recorded as follows: the Democratic Party 42.7%, People Power Party 40.0%, People Party 6.8%, and Justice Party 3.5%. The Democratic Party rose by 1.4%p compared to the previous week, while the People Power Party fell by 0.7%p.


This survey was conducted using an automated response telephone (ARS) method with 97% mobile and 3% landline calls. The response rate was 7.5%, and the margin of error was ±2.0%p at a 95% confidence level. For more details, please refer to the Central Election Survey Deliberation Commission website.
