Jang Sung-min: "Moon-Yoon Dinner Meeting, Opportunity to Resolve Pressing Issues... Will Upgrade Democracy"

Expectations for Resolution of Current Issues Such as COVID-19 and North Korea's Nuclear Threat

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Jang Sung-min, the political special advisor to President-elect, stated on the 27th that the meeting between President Moon Jae-in and President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol will be an opportunity to resolve current issues.

Through social media (SNS) on the same day, Advisor Jang said, "At a time when numerous domestic and international issues are piling up, the meeting between President Moon and President-elect Yoon holds special significance," adding, "I hope that these two will resolve the issues through candid dialogue."

He said, "Currently, two situations are threatening security on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia: one is the threat of the disease COVID-19, and the other is North Korea's nuclear threat."

Advisor Jang introduced, "The post-COVID-19 world order is shifting to a new Cold War system, and the test launch of North Korea's ICBM is evaluated as returning the Korean Peninsula to a new Cold War situation. Additionally, with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the global economy is even forecasting stagflation."

He emphasized the need to respond to threats ranging from COVID-19, security threats, to economic threats caused by the war between Ukraine and Russia.

Furthermore, he expressed hope that this meeting could serve as an opportunity for Korean democracy to mature further.

Advisor Jang said, "I hope that the dinner meeting between President Moon and President-elect Yoon at the Blue House Sangchunje tomorrow will be a meaningful day that can upgrade Korean democracy to the next level."
