Gyeongbuk Province Provides Reboot Opportunities for 4060 Middle-Aged Generation

Providing Employment Services for the 4060 Generation in Job Blind Spots

Preparing Retired (or Soon-to-Retire) Workers for Job Transition... Supporting Happy Startups

Gyeongbuk Province Provides Reboot Opportunities for 4060 Middle-Aged Generation Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongsangbuk-do is set to actively promote job support projects targeting the ‘4060 generation,’ which plays a central role in the employment market.

The 4060 generation accounts for about 48% of the local population (as of February 2022), representing a significant portion, but unlike the youth, there are no specialized projects for them, leaving them in a job blind spot.

The province judged that specialized support measures are needed for the reemployment of the unemployed 4060 generation and will expand the ‘4050 Happy Job Project,’ which has been a priority for the past two years, to include those aged 40 to under 65 this year.

Gyeongbuk-do’s ‘4060 New Middle-aged Job Support Project’ consists of support for retirement (or prospective retirement) workers’ job transition preparation, happy startup accelerating, fostering region-specific cooperatives, supporting employment in small and medium enterprises, and part-time job support.

This year, in addition to providing employment services to job seekers, various services such as employment incentive allowances and educational programs will be supported.

Specifically, the retirement (or prospective retirement) workers’ job transition preparation project consists of life career design and job transition school programs, selecting a total of 210 people to provide educational opportunities.

The life career design program offers customized education by comprehensively reviewing each job seeker’s situation to prepare for the latter half of life.

The job transition school program educates prospective retirees on preparations for job change and transition before retirement.

The happy startup accelerating project recruits prospective entrepreneurs who wish to start businesses in technology-based fields such as manufacturing and knowledge services.

Through screening, a total of 10 people will be selected and provided with startup education, mentoring, and startup funds.

The region-specific cooperative fostering project recruits startup hopeful teams consisting of five or more members, selects four cooperatives linked to local resources, provides business consulting by connecting them with field experts, and supports joint commercialization funds.

Gyeongbuk-do plans to promote population inflow into depopulated areas and revitalize the region by enhancing community spirit based on village-level resident participation.

The small and medium enterprise employment support project provides up to 1 million KRW per person per month in labor costs to SMEs hiring new 4060 generation workers. The part-time job support project provides up to 500,000 KRW per person per month in labor costs to small business owners hiring new 4060 generation workers.

The province intends to continuously maintain the employment creation effect and motivate the 4060 generation’s work enthusiasm through ongoing follow-up management and support of the projects.

Based on job support in depopulated areas, the plan is to promote population settlement and inflow and encourage the 4060 generation’s participation in economic activities to revitalize the local economy.

Recruitment announcements and detailed schedules can be found on the websites of each city and county or on the Gyeongsangbuk-do Economic Promotion Agency website.

Lee Young-seok, Director of the Job Economy Office of Gyeongsangbuk-do, said, “Job support policies for the middle-aged have been relatively insufficient compared to those for the youth. We will always pay attention to the 4060 generation, who are the local reality youth playing a pivotal role in the labor market, and take the lead in job creation.”
