[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City supports paid sick leave for local self-employed workers.
The city announced on the 24th that it will continue to promote the 'Self-Employed Paid Sick Leave Support Project,' which was introduced and implemented on September 1 last year.
The target beneficiaries are self-employed workers residing in Daejeon and operating businesses, who are regional subscribers to health insurance with a standard median income of 150% or less, and who are hospitalized and receiving treatment due to illness or injury.
In particular, eligible individuals can also receive support when diagnosed with COVID-19 and admitted to a life treatment center or receiving home treatment, which is expected to somewhat help alleviate management difficulties.
The support period is up to 11 days per year, and the paid sick leave amount is 83,680 KRW per day (regional living wage). Reflecting the payment amount for the maximum number of days, beneficiaries can receive up to 920,480 KRW. The payment method is through the local currency Ontong Daejeon.
Applicants wishing to apply must submit an application form along with admission and discharge confirmation documents to the Daejeon Job and Economy Promotion Agency by mail, email, fax, or in person within 6 months from the discharge date.
For more detailed information about the paid sick leave support project, please refer to the Daejeon Job and Economy Promotion Agency website or receive guidance through the Small Business Support Center.
Im Muk, Director of the City Job and Economy Bureau, said, “Last year, the paid sick leave system received great response from local self-employed workers,” and added, “We hope this project will continue to support the health rights and livelihood security of self-employed workers struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation this year as well.”
