Announcement of New National Intangible Cultural Heritage Designation for 'Hanbok Wearing'

[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 24th that it will designate "Wearing Hanbok" as a new National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

"Wearing Hanbok" was evaluated as worthy of designation as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage due to the following reasons: ▲ it has a long history and has been passed down within the Korean Peninsula ▲ related artifacts and records have been confirmed, such as Goguryeo tomb murals, Silla clay figurines (Toyu), and Chinese historical documents ▲ active academic research is being conducted across various fields including history, aesthetics, design, fashion, technology, management (marketing), industry, and education, with great potential as academic research material in the future ▲ the foundation of wearing Hanbok is continuously maintained and preserved as part of rituals (holidays and life ceremonies) centered on family communities ▲ traditional knowledge related to "Wearing Hanbok" is being transmitted and preserved through various transmission communities such as producers, research institutions, and family communities even today.

The Cultural Heritage Administration will collect opinions from various sectors during the approximately 30-day public notice period regarding "Wearing Hanbok," and then make the final decision on its designation as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage after review by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee. During the public notice period, various opinions can be submitted on the Cultural Heritage Administration's website.
