One Month Since Russia's Invasion of Ukraine... 3.55 Million People Have Left Their Homes

[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] As Russia's invasion of Ukraine enters its second month, the number of Ukrainians who have fled abroad has surpassed 3.55 million.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on the 22nd (local time) that "since the invasion by Russia began on the 24th of last month, as of the day before, 3,557,245 Ukrainians have fled abroad." Most of the refugees are vulnerable groups such as children and women.

Among the refugees who crossed the borders, nearly 60%, or 2,113,554 people, headed to Poland. This was followed by Romania (543,308), Moldova (367,913), Hungary (253,592), and Slovakia (253,592).

The number of Ukrainians who went to Russia and Belarus reached 252,376 and 4,308 respectively.

According to UNHCR, the number of Ukrainians who fled abroad surpassed 1 million on the 2nd, 2 million on the 8th, and 3 million on the 15th.

The Wall Street Journal reported, "More than 10 million Ukrainians have had to leave their homes due to the war, and since then, more than 12 million have been stranded, unable to go anywhere."
