Former Gwangju Deputy Mayor for Economy Park Byung-kyu Announces Candidacy for Gwangsan District Mayor

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Former Gwangju Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Park Byung-gyu officially declared his candidacy for the Gwangsan District Mayor of Gwangju in the nationwide local elections to be held on June 1.

On the 21st, candidate Park held a press conference at the Gwangju City Council and stated, "I will place the next Gwangju-type jobs in Gwangsan and make Gwangsan District a New Deal Economic Special Zone."

Candidate Park is known as the "Father of Casper" as the original proposer and designer of the Gwangju-type job project, Gwangju Global Motors (GGM).

He emphasized, "I introduced the Gwangju-type job project to the world in 2014 and became a public official myself to realize it. I converted irregular workers to regular positions, implemented a living wage system, and introduced a youth labor rights protection system."

He continued, "In 2018, I became the Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs to bring the Gwangju-type job project to its peak. Through an investment agreement with Hyundai Motor Company, we launched 'Gwangju Global Motors' and released the hit product Casper, demonstrating that we can create as many jobs as needed."

Meanwhile, candidates preparing to run for Gwangsan District Mayor include Gwangju City Council members Kim Ik-ju and Kim Hak-sil, former Gwangju Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Park Byung-gyu, former Blue House administrative officers Park Si-jong and Choi Chi-hyun, former Blue House secretary Yoon Nan-sil, former Gwangju City Council chairman Yoon Bong-geun (in alphabetical order).
