Suncheon-si Confirms Largest Ever First Supplementary Budget of 1.5245 Trillion Won

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The first supplementary budget for this year in Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do, has been finalized at 1.5245 trillion won.

Approved as originally proposed at the 258th Suncheon City Council extraordinary session on the 18th, this supplementary budget is the largest ever, increasing by 148.5 billion won compared to this year's original budget.

The city prioritized this supplementary budget for supporting the successful hosting of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo, the recovery of the real economy for a V-shaped rebound of Suncheon's economy, and daily recovery support funds for small business owners and self-employed individuals who endured over two years of COVID-19 hardships.

It allocated an additional 28 billion won for preparations for the successful hosting of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo next year, 30 billion won for small business owners who suffered business damage due to COVID-19 quarantine measures, and 45.5 billion won for national and provincial subsidy projects in regional economic revitalization, carbon neutrality, and future industry sectors.

The city’s strategy is to focus the supplementary budget on urgent projects for the rapid daily recovery of citizens and the recovery of the real economy, thereby revitalizing the neighborhood economy through selection and concentration.

Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, “I thank Chairman Heo Yu-in and the 24 council members who submitted this first supplementary budget as an agenda item at the extraordinary session and secured the full amount without cuts, which will be a timely relief for the 290,000 Suncheon citizens enduring the painful long-term COVID-19 crisis.” He added, “We will promptly execute 337.2 billion won in rapid execution budgets for major city-wide projects in the first half of the year to achieve an early V-shaped rebound of Suncheon’s economy and recovery of the real economy.”

Meanwhile, Suncheon City has set this year’s administrative goal as ‘Recovering Daily Life, Reviving the Economy’ and is concentrating all administrative power and finances on stabilizing people’s livelihoods and economic recovery.
