Munpia, Popular Web Novel Drama Script Contest

Munpia, Popular Web Novel Drama Script Contest

[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] Moonpia, a web novel serialization platform, is starting the application process for the ‘1st Astory X Moonpia IP (Intellectual Property) Cross Drama Script Contest,’ held in collaboration with the global comprehensive content studio Astory.

The IP Cross Drama Script Contest, running from the 21st to August 5th, was prepared to discover writers who will realize the infinite imagination within web novels as dramas in line with the globalization of K-content. It features a differentiated operation method by selecting specific web novel IPs and recruiting drama scenarios. Participants can freely edit or adapt the drama scripts based on the concept and content of the original Moonpia web novels and submit their works.

The original works for the contest are Moonpia’s popular web novels “12 Hours Later” and “The Season When Spring Comes, We.”

“12 Hours Later,” a modern fantasy and office drama genre, tells the story of an ordinary office worker who starts to succeed after being able to see one news article 12 hours in advance every day. “The Season When Spring Comes, We” is a romance and fantasy novel about a protagonist who, after hearing from a man called the God of Life that her future husband is destined to have a short life, travels five years into the future to meet him.

To apply, from the 21st to August 5th, participants must submit a drama plan and two episodes of scripts adapted from either “12 Hours Later” or “The Season When Spring Comes, We” along with the contest application form via email. Both new and established writers can apply, and there are no restrictions on individuals or teams.

The total prize money is 70 million KRW, with six winners selected: ▲Grand Prize (1 person) 25 million KRW ▲Excellence Award (2 persons) 15 million KRW each ▲Merit Award (3 persons) 5 million KRW each. Judging criteria include understanding of the original work, adaptation planning and originality, popularity, writing ability, story completeness, fun, and engagement. Since the contest’s purpose is to utilize Moonpia web novel IPs, purely original works with free themes will be excluded from judging. Winners will be announced by September.

Additionally, to commemorate the contest, Moonpia is holding an original work viewing event until the contest deadline on August 5th. During the event period, 60 out of 197 episodes of “12 Hours Later” and 30 out of 62 episodes of “The Season When Spring Comes, We” will be available for free viewing.

Detailed information about the contest can be found on the IP Cross Contest website.

Meanwhile, Moonpia plans to further expand its IP business this year by leveraging its strengths as Korea’s leading web novel platform. Along with this collaborative contest with Astory, Korea’s top content production company known for producing dramas like “Signal” and “Kingdom” and the comedy show “SNL Korea,” Moonpia will actively pursue projects to expand the IPs of its popular novels into various secondary contents.
