[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] It has been reported that Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, is expected to begin official activities as early as the beginning of next week.
According to Newsis on the 16th, Kim plans to make her debut next week after the Presidential Transition Committee's appointments are finalized and the committee officially launches, taking into account President-elect Yoon's schedule. Several proposals regarding her official activities have been made to Kim, and she is currently reviewing them, according to sources.
A representative from Yoon’s camp stated, "Kim has conveyed to those around her that she wants to do something she can truly do well and be helpful."
In particular, it is reported that Kim is considering ways to assist marginalized groups. However, the timing of her official activities remains flexible.
Until now, Kim has not engaged in official activities during the presidential election period due to various allegations surrounding her. She did not make any public appearances even after Yoon’s victory was assured.
In a message released through the campaign headquarters on the 10th after the election, she stated, "I will humbly support the President-elect so that he can faithfully fulfill the mission entrusted to him by the people," and added, "If circumstances permit, I will also consider the issues faced by marginalized groups or those living in the shadows of growth, where the government's reach has not yet extended."
Based on this message, some have predicted that even after Yoon’s inauguration, Kim is likely to focus on 'shadow support' and maintain the image of a reclusive first lady.
