Fuel pumps and parking lots, as well as cafes and convenience stores, are available for use
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Renault Samsung Motors' In-Car Payment system is receiving positive reviews. Its advantage lies in the ability to use not only gas stations and parking lots but also cafes, restaurants, and convenience stores.
According to the completed car industry on the 15th, Renault Samsung Motors' In-Car Payment has enhanced practicality by partnering with mobile commerce platform startup Owin to secure various affiliated stores.
It can be used beyond gas stations and parking lots, including cafes, restaurants, and convenience stores. The In-Car Payment system is available at over 1,000 CU convenience stores nationwide.
The biggest advantage is convenience. Any affiliated store can be used like a drive-thru. After placing an order and making a payment through the Owin app installed on the infotainment system, the navigation guides you to the store. Upon arrival, you call via the app, and the store staff brings the ordered menu to your car. This enables contactless purchases at any affiliated store.
In particular, the usage method is simple. By touching the Easy Connect screen, which handles the vehicle's entertainment, and entering the application collection, the Owin app is installed. To use In-Car Payment, you must also install the Owin app on your smartphone and synchronize it with the vehicle's Owin app. You need to enter the pairing number sent to your smartphone to activate the vehicle's Owin app for security reasons. Once a credit card is registered in In-Car Payment, payments are made automatically.
For example, if you need to buy something at a convenience store, first find a CU convenience store that supports the service on the map. Click the convenience store you want to go to, add the items to your cart, and enter the expected arrival time. However, you must purchase at least 5,000 KRW to use the service. Then, head to the convenience store or pickup zone, and when you arrive, press the arrival notification message. The convenience store staff will bring the items to your car.
Using gas stations is also simple. When signing up for Owin to use In-Car Payment for the first time, you enter basic information such as vehicle model, fuel type, and fuel filler direction. This information is automatically sent to the gas station each time you use the service. You can reserve your desired fueling amount and time, pay in advance, and go to the gas station at the reserved time. Then, you can receive contactless fueling service.
Currently, the In-Car Payment system is installed in the XM3 and SM6 models. Renault Samsung Motors recently released the 2023 XM3, adding a safety support call service that supports emergency rescue reporting and accident handling to the In-Car Payment function.
This service supports emergency rescue reporting and accident handling through a 24-hour dedicated call center in case of emergencies such as vehicle accidents. When an airbag deploys during a vehicle accident, the current location is automatically sent to the call center to request emergency rescue and accident handling support. Additionally, the 2023 XM3 adds the INSPIRE trim, allowing for a more unique and premium style experience.
The 2023 XM3 prices, based on a 3.5% individual consumption tax rate, are as follows: 1.6 GTe ▲SE Basic 18.65 million KRW ▲SE 18.75 million KRW ▲LE Basic 20.76 million KRW ▲LE 20.86 million KRW ▲RE Basic 22.73 million KRW ▲RE 22.92 million KRW; and TCe 260 ▲RE 24.49 million KRW ▲RE Signature 26.95 million KRW ▲INSPIRE 28.62 million KRW.
