[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron on the 13th (local time) and agreed to strengthen sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
According to the White House, during the call, President Biden held Russia accountable for the invasion and reaffirmed the existing commitment to support the Ukrainian government and people. The two leaders also agreed on taking measures to strengthen sanctions against Russia and support Ukraine. However, it is not known what additional sanctions were discussed during this call.
Meanwhile, the French ?lys?e Palace conveyed that President Macron expressed condolences for Brent Renaud, a former New York Times (NYT) video journalist who died in Ukraine due to attacks by Russian forces.
Additionally, President Macron also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the same day and conveyed support measures at the European Union (EU) level.
