Big Data Knows the Optimal Locations for Illegal Parking Enforcement CCTV Dongdaemun-gu Data Platform

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) is actively utilizing big data to establish policies and resolve current issues.

The district analyzes collected data to identify locations for public Wi-Fi installation and areas for illegal parking enforcement CCTV installation.

The district added current Wi-Fi installation status data to the previously conducted Wi-Fi site analysis, and further incorporated variables such as Seoul city commercial district data (traditional markets, developed commercial areas, alley commercial areas with street-level population), floating population, and economic population to identify areas urgently needing public Wi-Fi installation.

Based on these results, public Wi-Fi will be installed in the identified areas this year.

Additionally, to address the illegal parking issue, which constitutes the majority of complaints, the district conducted a ‘Dongdaemun-gu Illegal Parking Big Data Analysis.’ Using building register parking space counts and registered vehicle data within the district, areas lacking parking spaces were analyzed, and by utilizing parking-related complaint data, enforcement status, and CCTV installation status, priority areas for illegal parking management were derived.

The district plans to install three additional parking enforcement CCTVs in these areas this year. Notably, this analysis was conducted internally using the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Hyean standard analysis model, contributing to budget savings.

Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We will keep pace with the times by utilizing and analyzing diverse and objective big data to plan and implement effective policies that can improve the quality of life for our residents.”
