[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Won Heeryong, former governor of Jeju and appointed as the Planning Committee Chair of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's Presidential Transition Committee, stated that he will "focus on election after-service (AS)."
On the 13th, Won introduced his role on Facebook as "the mission to properly reflect the promises made to the public during the election into the new government's policies." He added, "I will devote my efforts as the honest and responsible head of the policy headquarters," and asked for "much interest and support."
On the same day, Won also shared specific plans in another post. He said, "Once the Planning Committee Chair duties at the transition committee begin, I will organize and systematically carry out the post-election follow-up tasks I have been handling personally, such as providing legal support to supporters who were sued or accused by the Democratic Party and managing the public relations response team to counter false provocations."
Earlier, on the 11th, Won pledged to protect supporters who were sued or accused by the Democratic Party due to comments or expressions related to the presidential election. He said, "I devoted everything to achieve regime change, but I will also focus on cleaning up after the election and follow-up work," and urged, "Let's overcome the abuse of lawsuits together."
Meanwhile, on the same day, President-elect Yoon held a press conference at the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, announcing the appointment of Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, as the chair of the Presidential Transition Committee, and Kwon Young-se as vice-chair. He also stated that a separate Planning Committee will be established within the transition committee, with Won Heeryong appointed as its chair.
Yoon said, "Leader Ahn shares my values and philosophy on state affairs management and voluntarily took a position at my request after the election," adding, "Ahn also has the will to lead the transition committee, and I judged him to be the right person."
Regarding Kwon, Yoon evaluated, "With his rich legislative experience and wisdom, he demonstrated competent and stable leadership during the recent election process." He added, "I believe Ahn and Kwon will successfully lead the government transition work."
Yoon continued, "Won, as the head of the policy headquarters of the People Power Party’s presidential campaign, planned the overall pledges," and said, "I appointed him to the Planning Committee to properly fulfill the promises I made to the people during the election process and to effectively reflect them as policy tasks of the new government."
