[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Teenage youths were arrested by the police on charges of using violence, including forcing a younger neighborhood peer to shave his head and eyebrows, and extorting money by blaming him for gambling debts.
The Gyeonggi Gwangmyeong Police Station announced on the 11th that they are investigating three individuals, including high school student A and two middle school students, on charges of assault and extortion. Among them, the main suspect A was issued an emergency escort warrant and handed over to the juvenile classification review board.
A is accused of bullying middle school student B, a younger neighborhood peer, over the past few months by assaulting him with fists and forcing him to shave his head and eyebrows. He is also charged with making B incur debts through illegal gambling and then using this as leverage to force B to dispose of his home computer, subsequently embezzling the sales proceeds.
During the police investigation, it was reported that B was living with A and others while being in a runaway state. The crimes committed by A and others came to light after B confessed to the victimization following persuasion by a School Police Officer (SPO) who responded to a report from B’s mother.
The police stated that they plan to confirm the degree of involvement of the other offending students besides A and then transfer the case to the juvenile division.
