[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] On the morning of the 10th, U.S. President Joe Biden congratulated President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol and emphasized the need for coordination of North Korea policies among South Korea, the United States, and Japan. He also conveyed that the U.S. is closely monitoring North Korea's recent missile provocations.

The People Power Party's election campaign headquarters announced that "President-elect Yoon spoke with President Biden for about 20 minutes starting around 10 a.m. today." This was Yoon's first schedule after his election was confirmed that day.

According to the campaign headquarters, during the call, the two agreed on the necessity of cooperation between the two countries in response to North Korea's threats. President-elect Yoon emphasized to President Biden that "North Korea has continued provocations since the beginning of the year," stressing the need for South Korea-U.S. cooperation and requested close attention to Korean Peninsula issues going forward.

In response, President Biden said, "The United States is closely monitoring the situation in North Korea, and since North Korea's recent ballistic missile provocations are considered threats not only to South Korea but also to the United States, close coordination among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan regarding North Korea policies will be important."

On this day, President Biden congratulated President-elect Yoon and stated, "I look forward to this becoming an opportunity for the two countries to expand cooperation beyond the core axis of security and prosperity to various fields such as COVID-19 and climate change response."

Additionally, President-elect Yoon expressed respect for the U.S. leading international cooperation with allies in response to Russia's recent invasion of Ukraine, and President Biden reciprocated by acknowledging South Korea's key role in the Ukraine situation.

President Biden also proposed that President-elect Yoon visit the White House after his inauguration.
