Up 4 Ranks from Last Year, 30th in the World and 1st Domestically
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Asan Social Welfare Foundation Seoul Asan Medical Center is the only domestic hospital to enter the top 30 in the global hospital ranking conducted by the American news weekly Newsweek.
Newsweek recently announced the '2022 World’s Best Hospitals' ranking by compiling recommendations and patient satisfaction from 80,000 medical professionals across 27 countries in collaboration with the global research firm Statista.
Seoul Asan Medical Center rose four places from 34th last year to 30th in the world, standing shoulder to shoulder with prestigious hospitals representing countries such as the United States, Canada, and Germany. It maintained first place domestically for the fourth consecutive year.
Among more than 2,200 hospitals worldwide, this survey selected 250 excellent hospitals. The number one hospital in the world was the Mayo Clinic in the United States. Following were the Cleveland Clinic (USA), Massachusetts General Hospital (USA), Toronto General Hospital (Canada), and Charit? ? Universit?tsmedizin Berlin (Germany), ranking 2nd to 5th respectively.
The evaluation criteria consisted of online survey results (55%) from 80,000 doctors, hospital officials, and health experts in 27 countries, medical performance indicators (30%), and patient satisfaction surveys (15%). For domestic hospitals, appropriateness evaluations on intensive care units, acute diseases, cancer, and pharmaceuticals conducted by the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, as well as patient experience evaluations regarding doctors, nurses, and hospital environment, were reflected in the assessment.
Seoul Asan Medical Center also ranked in the global top tier in eight fields in Newsweek’s '2022 World’s Best Hospitals by Specialty' evaluation announced last year. The cancer field ranked 5th, followed by endocrinology 5th, gastroenterology 8th, neurology 8th, orthopedics 12th, respiratory 27th, cardiology 35th, and cardiac surgery 52nd.
Park Seung-il, director of Seoul Asan Medical Center, said, "Since opening in 1989 to help the most vulnerable neighbors in our society, Seoul Asan Medical Center has achieved remarkable results in treating severe diseases such as cancer, organ transplantation, and heart conditions, entering the top 30 hospitals leading global healthcare. We will continue to advance our treatment system focused on severe diseases so that not only domestic but also overseas critically ill patients can receive optimal treatment in a safe environment."
