"Please Hang in There, Elders" Comfort Delivered
Commitment to Urge Recovery Procedures After Cleanup
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, visited the fire site in Uljin, Gyeongbuk, and comforted the disaster victims by saying, "Even if I am at the Blue House, I must take a helicopter and come if a forest fire breaks out."
On the night of the 4th, Candidate Yoon visited the Uljin National Sports Center, where residents evacuated due to the forest fire accident in Uljin, Gyeongbuk, had gathered. After touring inside the shelter, he met with the residents and offered words of consolation.
He held the hands of the residents and said, "Elders, please hang in there a little longer." He also said, "Once the forest fire is over, the government will rebuild all the houses, so please do not worry." He checked various parts of the shelter to see if daily necessities such as blankets and quilts were provided.
After leaving the shelter, Candidate Yoon told reporters, "On my way from Andong to the Yeongju campaign site, I heard that many disaster victims appeared and that the forest fire suppression was not going well, causing the fire to worsen again." He added, "Many disaster victims are at the Uljin gymnasium, and since they are all elderly, I came to see how the elders are doing before moving to Jecheon after finishing the Yeongju campaign."
He continued, "I may not be of great help, but I just held their hands and will urge the government to promptly suppress the fire according to the law and to quickly proceed with the procedures to rebuild their residences."
Meanwhile, in the early morning of the following day, the 5th, Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, also visited Uljin, Gyeongbuk, and Samcheok, Gangwon, privately to meet with the disaster victims.
