BMT Establishes 'HiRion', a Subsidiary for Secondary Battery Electrode Coating

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] BMT announced on the 4th that it has established a specialized subsidiary, Hyrion, for new coating equipment technology for secondary battery electrodes and is entering a new business. The capital of Hyrion is 2.2 billion KRW.

Hyrion aims to produce equipment that applies new coating technology to secondary battery electrode active materials and solid electrolytes. The new coating process technology owned by Hyrion improves the drawbacks of the existing wet method. It has no environmental issues, increases productivity, and can produce in a small space.

The electrode production process accounts for the highest proportion of production costs in the battery manufacturing process. It also greatly affects battery characteristics. Since there is much room for technological development, it is a field that global battery companies are paying attention to.

A BMT official said, "Applying the new coating technology owned by Hyrion will reduce electrode production costs in the future," and added, "We will secure technological superiority in secondary battery electrode production and all-solid-state battery fields."

They plan to expand their business area through small-scale pilot production or consignment production in cooperation with secondary battery companies.

A company official emphasized, "Entering a high-growth industry and developing high value-added equipment will enable performance growth."

BMT surpassed 100 billion KRW in sales last year for the first time since its establishment. Sales increased as it expanded deliveries to global customers based on leading technology.
