Implementation of 15-Minute Living Zone... Busan City Establishes and Implements 'Bicycle Use Promotion Action Plan' Busan City Hall.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan City has established the ‘2022 Bicycle Usage Activation Implementation Plan’ and is working to expand bicycle infrastructure and promote a culture of bicycle use.

The plan is being carried out to realize a 15-minute living zone, a carbon-neutral green city, and low-carbon green transportation.

The implementation plan includes 10 promotion tasks in three areas: infrastructure expansion for activating bicycle use, improvement of usage environment, and spreading of usage culture.

Key initiatives include ▲repair and maintenance of bicycle roads ▲maintenance of convenience facilities for bicycle use ▲widening and maintenance of narrow bicycle roads ▲repair of lifestyle bicycle roads linked to public transportation ▲establishment of plans to expand bicycle infrastructure linked to large-scale development projects.

Specifically, 13 aging bicycle roads, including the repaving of the National Long-distance Bicycle Road in Sasang-gu, will be maintained to ensure citizens can use bicycles safely.

To secure convenience for bicycle use, 78 aging or damaged convenience facilities such as bicycle racks will be repaired or newly installed.

Narrow bicycle roads less than 1.5 meters wide and bicycle roads in areas that can be linked with public transportation will be surveyed with autonomous districts and counties and gradually improved.

Efforts will also be made to expand bicycle infrastructure by actively participating from the development planning stage to ensure bicycle roads are reflected in large-scale development projects.

To promote bicycle traffic safety and usage culture, cooperation with related organizations such as the Traffic Culture Training Center and Busan Regional Public Corporation SpoOne will be strengthened to expand bicycle safety education for citizens.

For children, experiential education on bicycle safety will be provided to raise safety awareness and do their best to prevent accidents.

Jo Young-tae, Director of the Busan City Transportation Bureau, said, “We will do our best to establish the ‘Five-Year Plan for Bicycle Usage Activation’ so that Busan City can become a carbon-neutral green city where bicycle use is a part of daily life.”
