[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok, Yeongju=Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] "They are making fun of Yeongju citizens. We waited from 8 o'clock because the presidential candidate was coming."

On the 27th, Mr. Lee (58), a citizen met on Beonyeong-ro in Yeongju, Gyeongbuk, expressed frustration over Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, suddenly canceling his campaign schedule.

The Yoon campaign team sent a text message to reporters at 8:40 a.m., 20 minutes before the campaign was to start, stating, "We inform you that Candidate Yoon will not be able to attend the campaign today due to circumstances. We ask for your understanding." It is known that Yoon's sudden cancellation was due to the unification issue with Ahn Cheol-soo, the People's Party presidential candidate.

Originally, the People Power Party had announced the campaign with Yoon attending under the title "A President who protects the dignity of Yeongju, the hometown of scholars!" the day before.

Mr. Lee said, "I only heard 10 minutes before that Candidate Yoon was not coming," adding, "Everyone who waited for Yoon is cursing." He raised his voice, saying, "I didn't even officially hear that he wouldn't come; I heard it from a passing party member. They seem to think this is a neighborhood where just planting a flag means winning, but this is a betrayal of the people here."

He said, "It was cold, and elderly people were trembling while waiting, but they should have notified us earlier. What if they don't know basic manners? If they had informed us in advance, those who wanted to stay would have stayed, and those who wanted to leave would have left." Mr. Lee added, "The unification is already late, and public sentiment has changed."

Despite Yoon's sudden campaign cancellation, there were still citizens who expressed support. Mr. Lim (68), who had been there an hour before the campaign, said, "I'm not upset that Candidate Yoon didn't come," and stated, "We need to unify and bring about a regime change."

Meanwhile, Yoon is expected to announce his position on unification with Candidate Ahn and other matters at a press conference at 1 p.m. at the People Power Party central office in Seoul. He is also expected to attend a campaign event in Pohang at 5 p.m. It is reported that Yoon will not participate in campaign schedules in Andong, Yeongcheon, Gyeongsan, Gyeongju, and other places besides Yeongju.
